Instructions for pain or broken orthodontic appliances are given here:
- Sensitive teeth
When the orthodontic appliances are placed not long ago, teeth can be quite sensitive, particularly the first three days. You can consider to take paracetamol. When the sensitivity persists longer than a week or gets worse you can always contact us during office hours.
- Irritation inside mouth
Irritation on the inside of the cheeks or lips will generally disappear without treatment. If you have brackets you can temporarily use our wax to cover sharp parts of the bracket(s). If you don’t have wax, you can use sugar-free gum.
- Loose bracket of loose band
Irritation on the inside of the cheeks or lips will generally disappear without treatment. If you have brackets you can temporarily use our wax to cover sharp parts of the bracket(s). If you don’t have wax, you can use sugar-free gum.
- Poking wire
In case of a poking wire you can contact the practice during office hours. You can temporarily cover the sharp part with our wax. If you don’t have wax, use sugar-free gum. When thin wire parts sticking out, you can try to cut these with a nail clipper.
- Pressure or irritation from activator
If irritation or pressure from the activator does not go away by itself, you can contact us during office hours. An appointment will be made to adjust the activator.
- Loose retention bar
After the bracket is removed, retention bars will be placed behind the front teeth. Contact the practice as soon as possible, during office hours when the bar is loose on one or more teeth. Take a completely loose bar always with you to the practice. Do not pull a partially loose bar out of the mouth.
